The Great Gatsby

Another travel back in 1920s by F. Scott Fitzgerald. After I finished the book, I was astounded for like 1-2minutes. My mind was blank and in my head I was screaming.. WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?

In movies, Jay Gatsby was, portrayed by none other than Leonardo de Caprio and he’s the Jay that I was imagining when I was reading the book. The movie is awe-inspiring, but the book, it’s so breathtaking. It was written way back 1920s, but the characters in the book are considerably common that their way of thinking and body language is still the same what we have here in the 21st century. So close that it was cited by F. Scott,

“Tom and Daisy – they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made”

Here’s one of the reviews on GoodReads that for me was on ‘point’ 😉

The Great Gatsby
By Nataliya

Oh, Gatsby you old sport, you poor semi-delusionally hopeful dreamer with ‘some heightened sensitivity to the promises of life’, focusing your whole self and soul on that elusive money-colored green light – a dream that shatters just when you are *this* close to it.

Jay Gatsby, who dreamed a dream with the passion and courage few possess – and the tragedy was that it was a wrong dream colliding with the reality that was even more wrong – and deadly.

My Favorite Quotes from the book

“Then wear the gold hat, if that will move her;
If you can bounce high, bounce for her too,
Till she cry ‘Lover, gold-hatted, high-bouncing lover,
I must have you!’ — Thomas Parke D’ Invilliers”

“Whenever you feel like criticizing any one, just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had”

“Reserving judgments is a matter of infinite hope.”

“Well, I’ve had a very bad time, Nick, and I’m pretty cynical about everything.”

“That’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.”

“It seemed to me that the thing for Daisy to do was to rush out of the house, child in arms – but apparently there were no such intentions in her head.”

“Every one suspects himself of at least one of the cardinal virtues, and this is mine: I am one of the few honest people that I have ever known.”

“There are only the pursued, the pursuing, the busy and the tired”

“Human sympathy has its limits, and we were content to let all their tragic arguments fade with the city lights behind.”

“Thirty – the promise of a decade of loneliness a thinning list of single men to know, a thinning briefcase of enthusiasm, thinning hair.”

“They’re a rotten crowd, You’re worth the whole damn bunch put together”

“So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”

Digital Calligraphy [001]: How do you measure a year in a life?

With all these weird things happening in the world; still, measure your life in love. The love you give to your parents, loves ones, friends, others, random people, the world and especially yourself. Keep that light in your heart wherever you go. So yeah, A little reminder to all. ❤

Basically, I just handletter this line from the musical ‘RENT’, took a picture of it and transfer it in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. The Watercolor background however, I just got it from freepik. Very handy. Thank you for sharing!

Watercolor Lettering #2

“Writing is an underestimated art, you are painting colorful images in people’s minds using black and white”.

Yes, I paint. Malay nyo, gumanda ganda na yang pagsusulat ko after ilang months o years. Nagsimula akong magsulat 5 years ago, tignan nyo ako magsulat ngayon, magulo pa din. hahaha.
